Green terraces

Ajda Murnik  |   2020

The proposed building design is a concept for a residential development located between the old part of Stare Loka and the new part of Škofje Loka. The main objective is to introduce a high-quality housing complex and facilitate a seamless transition between the lower and upper parts of the site.

The building is designed with a perpendicular and parallel alignment to the topography. The residential units and public spaces follow the traditional building practices and architectural heritage of the Stare Loka region.

The construction of each residential unit is based on a modular approach, utilizing a steel three-dimensional column structure that can be assembled on site and stacked on top of each other. A concrete block is placed at the back of each module to provide support and accommodate the uneven terrain.

The interior private spaces of the residential units are organized around a central courtyard, which is followed by a staircase with a filtering role, and a public terrace that facilitates social interaction and physical connectivity between the different levels of the building. The terraces serve as a communal space and provide a connection between the various floors, achieved through the integration of staircases between the unit lines.
