Renovation of the Ljubljana City Hall

To this day, the building is characterised by its fragmented, disconnected ambience and the lack of transparent accessibility of the spaces. Our intervention seeks to address the above-mentioned problems by asking, as a first step, 'What is the meaning of the town hall today?'. We want to know whether its primary programme belongs to the mayor or to the citizens.
In a second step, we design a town hall for the townspeople. By adding public programmes on all floors, the spaces start to connect and divide into more public - open - and less - closed. New horizontal connections across the levels are important as they connect the spaces in a circular way and, above all, there are vertical connections between the levels.
The Town Hall becomes a small-scaled street. The corridors become pathways that feed the rooms along the way. We make the spaces accessible to the public, creating a link between the mayor and the citizens.
