Circulation

The project, Circulation, is an conceptual design that aims to solve the problem of space confinement, specifically the division of space into exclusive and everyday zones. The intervention is located in Rogaška Slatina along the main promenade, next to the Cultural Center and on the location of the current pools or 'Rogaška River'.

 

The area of the promenade axis faces a significant problem of friction along the boundaries of different programs. The porousness of the boundaries is critical, as the entrances to the buildings lining the promenade are connected only to their respective buildings, and the program is intended only for specific social groups.
 

Therefore, with a series of interventions, I am trying to interweave the area with paths and elements that guide views, but mainly to soften the existing rigid line.

The currently named Vila Golf hotel, with its façade and park creates an apparent line, which I support with an open public park as an extension of the existing one, emphasized on the sides by the new volume of the pool building and cultural center. In this way, a new rectangular development axis is created, bent in the direction of the relief crack on the other side of the road.
 

With the design of the new volume of pools, I support the intervention in such a way that the actual pool program is elevated to the upper floor, while the services are submerged under the ground. This allows for indirect visual communication with the neighboring slope, through glass volumes filled with water.

The pools are lowered from the upper floor to the ground level for easier load transfer, and the program is elevated above ground level for privacy of visitors.

In addition, the ground floor space of the building becomes a completely passable public space, as an extension of the promenade.

Next to the pool, a square is created as a filter, bringing together the program of the pool and cultural center, and highlighting the new proposed development axis.
 

The pool building, as a meeting place for all social groups, strengthens and promotes the identity of Rogaška Slatina. The design includes the use of mineral water in the pools, thermal water for heating, and as a continuation of tradition, the design of glass walls produced in a local glass factory, forming the volume of transparent pools.
